My earliest food memory is making scones with my Gran in Ireland. I can still remember the taste and smell of rich Irish butter.

The food trends I’m seeing at the moment are international comfort foods and waste-not foods (using up all the leftovers). Smoking too, which has been popularised by Pitt Cue Co and Smokehouse, but you can do it at home with a colander, smoking chips and a flat-bottomed bowl. Street food still gets a shout-out from me.

My favourite place to eat currently is GOGO’s Waterfront Restaurant in Windsor. It serves locally sourced ingredients with South African flavours. My most memorable meal was dining at Tom Aikens’ Restaurant.

My ideal dinner guests would be Robert Downey Junior, Idris Elba and Raymond Blanc.

I get my cookbook inspiration from Nigella Lawson’s How to Eat: The Pleasures and Principles of Good Food. Nigella says it’s not possible to really cook unless you love eating. She isn’t a trained chef, and she cooks what she wants to eat – so this book doesn’t have anything too hard or fiddly in it. Nigel Slater calls it ‘food for the soul’.

Three items I always keep in my fridge are beetroot, cheese and fresh pasta.
