BM catering for independent schools is led by Operations Director, Heather Day. She has extensive experience in the education sector. Her eye for detail, high standards and passion to serve great food every day inspires confidence in our team and clients. People and values are at the heart of Heather’s success. So much so, that she devised the acronym for our FOODIES values.

Heather believes that good health and wellbeing are essential for successful learning. She is passionate about student’s education on food and nutrition. Working with our nutritionists she recognises the importance of children’s diet and the link to mental health and resilience.

Heather’s approach to recruitment and people is based on an ethos of nurture and develop. Her open style provides clear direction to ensure the team understand the importance of their role. She is always keen to recognise and reward good performance with an emphasis on having fun.

In mobilisations, she achieves a high percentage of team members TUPE across which translates into continuity of service for school catering and high team morale. Client feedback is that her firm touch and fresh pair of eyes deliver a significant quality improvement.

In the current climate, value for money and cost certainty are even more important. Heather works with our Procurement Director Steve Fox, to achieve the right balance of ingredient quality, provenance, sustainability and best value for money.

Heather is supported by a strong operations team headed up by Andrew Petford. Andrew has extensive experience in the education sector, looking after schools based in the Surrey, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire area.

Chef Director, Pete Redman is responsible for menu development, theme days, food concepts, hospitality and event planning. He is also responsible for chef team development and ensuring high standards of food quality and consistency.

Hebe Richardson, our Registered nutritionist advises the chef team on nutrition and how best to engage students. Hebe also works with Pete and catering managers to ensure balanced menus are always available.

Heather’s team has access to bartlett mitchell’s buddy sites, operations managers, development chefs, nutritionists, sustainability and purchasing experts. Heather is supported by a strong hands-on senior team who can make quick decisions.
