Meet the Directors: welcoming new team members to BM

Starting a new job is exciting, but it can also feel a little daunting. That is why every new BM team member is invited to Meet the Directors, a fun and interactive day designed to help them feel part of the team from the very beginning.

The group is usually a real mix of people and roles, from operations managers to kitchen porters. It gives new starters the chance to meet colleagues from across the business, learn more about BM and find out how our different departments work together to support our teams and customers.

Putting faces to names

During the day, team members hear directly from senior leaders across the business, including representatives from operations, people, food, learning and development, sales, marketing, ESG, health and safety, and Perkee Coffee.

Each person talks about their department, what it does and how it supports our teams. Attendees are also given the contact details of our senior leaders, including our Managing Director, Angus, so they know who they can speak to if they ever need advice or support.

It is important to us that everyone at BM feels able to contact the senior team, regardless of their role or where they work.

Learning through conversation and play

Meet the Directors is not a day of sitting through presentations. The five-hour event includes icebreakers, games and plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get involved.

One of the activities explores BM’s principles. Working in groups, attendees are given a principle and asked to bring it to life in a fun and interactive way. It gets everyone talking and helps explain what our principles mean in everyday working life.

The activities also give new team members the chance to get to know one another and build connections with colleagues from other parts of the business.

Experiencing another BM location

The event is held at one of our locations, giving attendees the opportunity to visit somewhere different from their usual workplace and see another BM team in action.

Food is, of course, an important part of the day. Everyone is welcomed with breakfast before enjoying lunch together later on.

Sitting down to eat gives people time to relax, chat and get to know other new starters and members of the senior team.

A warm BM welcome

At the end of the day, each attendee receives a BM cloth bag containing a reusable coffee cup, notebook, pen, keyring and seeded bookmark.

More importantly, everyone leaves with a better understanding of BM, the people behind the business and who they can turn to if they need support.

Meet the Directors is about helping new starters feel welcome and part of the team from the outset. It gives people useful contacts, a chance to meet colleagues from across the business and a much better idea of how BM works.
