BM’s organic Santo coffee, which was added to its Perkee range earlier this year, has won a star at this year’s Great Taste Awards.

More than 500 judges – including chefs, buyers, retailers, restaurateurs, food critics and writers – took part in blind taste tests to rate the quality of more than 14,000 food and drink products from over 100 countries.

As part of the food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers, approximately a quarter of entries will achieve a one-star rating each year which denotes “fantastic flavour”,

Single origin, and organically grown at Camocim Estate in Brazil’s Espirito Santo, Santo’s 100% Arabica bean is pulped naturally, meaning the bean is dried with the skin removed but the pulp left intact, which is believed to give the coffee a sweeter taste, allowing the flavours of hazelnut, vanilla and milk chocolate to shine through once it’s been roasted to medium roast.

BM was the first caterer to be awarded two stars for its premium Perkee coffee brand at the Great Taste Awards in 2018.

Miguel Camara, head of coffee and tea at BM, said: “We’ve so proud that our Santo coffee has been awarded a Great Taste Award, externally validating the work we’re doing to deliver a sustainable coffee option that is also delicious. Being able to use the Great Taste label, a symbol of quality widely recognised by consumers, will give our clients even more confidence that we are providing an excellent cup of coffee.”
