Celebrating Social Impact week

social impact week

From the 6–9 May, BM is marking Social Impact Week. A time to recognise all the ways we and our partners give back to our communities. It’s not just about these partnerships; we’re also shining a light on the many ways we create positive change across our business.

Here are six of our partners who are helping make a real difference.

Luminary Bakery

Luminary bakery, together with its sister Luminary charity, helps women who have suffered multiple disadvantages, such as domestic abuse and homelessness, gain employability skills, confidence, and independence. We retail their cakes, brownies and biscuits. These are not only delicious treats for our customers. They also raise the funds to put women through a two-year employability programme, which includes baking training. We recently took our partnership with Luminary Bakery a step further. Collaborating with them and Hogan Lovells to create the Nova coffee and bakery on 49 Farringdon Street. In addition to supporting Luminary’s training programme, Nova also benefits women by sourcing its Perkee coffee from Soppexcca, a Fairtrade women-led cooperative of coffee farmers in Nicaragua. Soppexcca’s profits are ploughed back into women’s health initiatives, education and sustainable farming.

Wildfarmed Flour

Modern agricultural methods are depleting our soil, which is vital for growing the nutritious food we depend on. Once it’s gone, it’s hard to get back. To change this, Andy Cato, Edd Lees, and George Lamb founded Wildfarmed in France. Pioneering regenerative farming practices that restore soil health and biodiversity. Wildfarmed Flour is not only a top-quality flour for baking, but it also contributes to the future of farming. Helping farmers transition to sustainable methods and supporting local communities. By our chefs choosing to cook with flour from Wildfarmed, we can help our farmers thrive while caring for the land that sustains us

Harry Specters Chocolate

We serve Harry Specters Chocolate. Customers can enjoy more than just a mouth-watering chocolate. They are supporting a company that provides employment opportunities for autistic individuals, helping them find independence and recognition. Founded by Mona in honour of her son Ash, Harry Specters has raised over £283,000 in social value, positively impacting the lives of many.  Customers love the taste — and appreciate that it’s chocolate with a cause, making a difference one bite at a time.

Lemonaid

We have been working with Lemonaid for several years. They offer organic, Fairtrade soft drinks, but their impact goes far beyond refreshment. The Lemonaid and ChariTea Foundation has raised an impressive £7 million to fund social projects in the Global South. Helping to improve lives through access to clean water, education, and fair wages. With every Lemonaid drink enjoyed, 5p goes directly to supporting inspiring projects. As more people embrace non-alcoholic choices, Lemonaid proudly offers a delicious, feel-good alternative that makes a real difference.

Tony’s Chocolonely

Tony’s Chocolonely is on a mission to eliminate modern slavery in the chocolate industry, ensuring fair wages and better lives for farmers in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. By choosing to retail Tony’s, we are supporting a fully traceable supply chain, free from forced and child labour. Helping to protect our environment from further deforestation.  It’s chocolate that challenges the norm. Sparking conversations, raising awareness, and setting a new standard for what ethical chocolate can look like.

Flawsome Drinks

Flawsome Drinks are a perfect example of turning surplus into something amazing. Flawsome’s award-winning drinks celebrate ‘wonky’ fruit—turning what might be wasted into something wonderful. Every purchase helps reduce food waste and ensures local farmers are fairly paid for produce that supermarkets overlook. With their sparkling juices, cold-pressed blends, and immunity shots, Flawsome shows that great taste and positive impact go hand in hand.

These six incredible partners are just a small representation of the many suppliers we work with who are dedicated to creating positive social impact. We also collaborate with social enterprises such as the Tower Project and Unity Works to provide employment opportunities for individuals with learning differences and neurodiverse conditions, supporting their integration into our teams.  This way we ensure that not only our supply chain but also our teams are generating a positive social impact, supporting those in need and giving back to the community.

We believe this strengthens our team’s commitment to each other and increases their investment in BM’s future. That’s why BM family members can also take a Fulfilling Friday off to volunteer with a charity of their choice — giving them the chance to support the causes that matter most to them.

By choosing to work with BM, you’re not only receiving quality products and services, but you’re also playing a part in fostering a better, more sustainable world. Every meal with us helps contribute to meaningful social change, benefiting both local communities and those across the globe. Together, we can continue to make a difference.
