When I talk to facilities professionals and those in an organisation responsible for appointing strategic partners, catering is almost always described as the most contentious service they manage, closely followed by travel. Why is this? Has it always been so contentious or has it stealthily become this way over time?
Selecting the right catering partner is all about ‘best fit’ and to establish this, clear objectives need to be set before even considering a potentially expensive and time consuming tender process. There are many caterers in today’s competitive market, but selecting the ‘best fit’ partner for you will ensure your objectives are achieved and that you get best value from the service.
bartlett mitchell hosted a consultants’ roundtable in December last year. This was held at Trinity in Clapham, the recently Michelin-starred restaurant owned by Adam Byatt, our Chef Consultant. We invited 14 leading foodservice consultants to debate the pros and cons of keeping catering as a standalone service rather than wrapping it up in an iFM or TFM deal. Most contributors were in agreement that specialist caterers need to engage better with the C-Suite, and more specifically HR, to better understand the cultural objectives from their catering strategy.
