Hello again!

Well this time I can’t write about my adventures beyond the UK borders as I’ve been firmly placed within them. However, I’ve found a great value eatery in our great city of London. I’m a big fan of Espania and all it has to offer-especially the food! So during a visit to the Old Vic Theatre to see Mr. Ralph Fiennes “treading the boards” I was taken to a Spanish tapas bar a few doors down to Meson Don Felipe – 53 The Cut, SE1 8LF. This is a no frills establishment – it wouldn’t make you stop and want to go in if you were passing by. They don’t serve cocktails either and I’m rather partial to a Negroni (even though it’s a drink that originates from Italy, I’ve enjoyed quite a few in Spain) and only have one choice of Gin – Gordons! However the Tapas are amazing and the wine list, lists wines from all over Spain (with at least 25 Riojas) a delight!

The choice of tapas got me very excited. With over 40 to choose from, ranging in price from £2.95 – £7.95 my choice was:

  • Pimientos De Padron – baby green peppers fried in olive oil
  • Patatas Bravas – Fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce – because you just have to!
  • Higaditos al jerez – Chicken livers in sherry sauce– my favourite
  • Calamares a la Romana – Deep fried squid

The four dishes cost £22.45 – such great value.

The food was complemented by a most enjoyable 2010 Rioja Reserva at a mere £22.95. The bill for the four of us came to £200.00 but that did include four G&T’s and three bottles of wine!! (And service of course).

If you enjoy Spanish cuisine you’ll love this place.

Until next time
