Honey Butter Toast
This style of dessert has become hugely popular and why wouldn’t it? It’s sweet, crunchy and soft.
Chef Pete Redman has created a step-by-step recipe video. You can watch the video here
Ingredients
- 4 thick slices of day-old Japanese milk bread (or any white bread)
- 100g unsalted butter, softened
- 50g honey
- 100g light brown sugar
- A pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: sliced bananas, ground cinnamon, figs, or ice cream
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread:
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan) / Gas Mark 6.
- If using Japanese milk bread, cut it into thick slices, about 2.5 cm (1 inch) thick. Square off the edges if necessary to ensure even cooking.
- Make the Honey Butter:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, honey, light brown sugar, and a pinch of salt.
- Mix vigorously until smooth and well combined.
- Butter the Bread:
- Spread the honey butter mixture generously and evenly over all sides of each slice of bread. Ensure every bit is well-coated for maximum flavour.
- Bake the Toast:
- Place the buttered bread slices on a baking tray, lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 8 minutes.
- Flip each slice over and bake for an additional 5 minutes. This helps achieve a crispy, caramelized crust on both sides.
- Cool and Serve:
- Once baked, remove the slices from the oven and let them cool slightly. This allows the honey butter and sugar mixture to set and harden, creating a lovely crunch.
- Optionally, serve with sliced bananas, a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, figs, or a scoop of ice cream.
