When 35 professionals walk into a room… something powerful happens

workplace wellbeing

In November, we gathered a room full of passionate people in Manchester for our first BM Caterers wellbeing networking event. Sparking fresh conversations about how we can all create healthier, happier workplaces.

What unfolded was far more than a networking session. It was an open, honest space where people spoke candidly about wellbeing at work, the challenges their teams face, and the opportunities that emerge when we collaborate to create healthier workplaces.

Expert insights that sparked conversation

We were thrilled to welcome Matt Liggins, Director at Robertson Cooper, as our speaker for the morning. With more than 25 years of experience in data-driven workplace wellbeing. Matt delivered a thought-provoking session that shaped the conversations that followed.

He shared a striking insight: while most organisations are taking some form of action to support wellbeing, only around half have a clear strategy in place. Rising sickness levels, growing tiredness and the increasing prevalence of burnout underline why wellbeing continues to demand serious attention.

There was optimism in the data too. Matt highlighted that even small, targeted changes can have a meaningful impact. Organisations that prioritise wellbeing often see benefits for their people, their culture and their overall performance.

Good food, good energy

The food played an important role in setting the tone for the morning. Guests enjoyed a vibrant selection of fresh bowl food crafted by Freshfields chefs Stuart and Miles. Their dishes showcased the creativity and skill of our team and reflected the core message of the day.

Nutritious, great-tasting food can support better energy, focus and engagement at work.

How we eat affects how we feel

One of the most engaging parts of the discussion focused on food and nutrition in the workplace. Many adults struggle to eat well during the working day, so the role of catering in shaping healthier habits came through strongly.

Simple and supportive choices can have a real impact. Encouraging regular breaks, offering convenient nutritious options and making healthy eating the easy choice can all help people feel better and work better. The group agreed that this link between what we eat, how we feel and how we perform is powerful and central to creating more good days at work.

This message aligns closely with our commitment at BM Caterers to support workplaces in building healthier routines.

A room full of openness and collaboration

What made the event truly special was the atmosphere. People were keen to share experiences, explore ideas and learn from one another. It was clear that workplace wellbeing is something many organisations are striving to improve.

For us, it was a reminder of how impactful it can be to bring people together, create space for conversation and draw on a mix of perspectives.

Looking ahead

As our first hosted networking event in Manchester, the evening was both encouraging and energising. We look forward to building on this momentum with future sessions.

Supporting wellbeing is an ongoing journey for every organisation. We are excited to continue working with our partners and customers to create environments where good food, good culture and good days at work can thrive.
